Get to know your caseworker at your local
Social Security office. The local office is the best source for answers
to questions you might have.
If you call the 800 number for Social
Security, check any information you are given with the local office. The
800 number has been known to relay inaccurate information.
Provide as much information as possible on
your child’s condition.
Answer all correspondence from Social
Security promptly. The deadline for responding is based on the postmark
on the letter – not when you receive the letter. If you are going to be
late with a response, contact Social Security and ask for an extension.
Keep records! In a notebook or some other
place, list every contact you have with Social Security. Include at
least the date of call, who you spoke with, and a summary of what was
discussed.
If denied, appeal. Contact a PWSA Crisis
Intervention Counselor (800-926-4797) immediately for assistance.
