FOCUS AREA 2B: ADVOCACY – Policy Advocacy
GUIDING PRINCIPLES.
PWSA envisions a USA and a world in which each of the following is true:
Effective organizations, mechanisms and tools have been developed to advocate
for the interests of individuals with PWS to favorably impact relevant policy
making at the federal, state and local levels of government and non-governmental
agencies, nationally and internationally.
The specific needs of individuals with PWS are effectively defined and met in
federal, state and local policies regarding:
- Public policy for postnatal diagnosis and treatment
- Lifespan education support
- Social security disability qualification
- Medicare qualification
- Appropriate placement options at the state level
- Lifespan occupational support
- Insurance coverage for existing and evolving medical treatments
