Query Language

The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:

growth hormone

finds documents containing 'growth' or 'hormone'

growth or hormone

same as above

growth and hormone

finds documents containing both 'growth' and 'hormone'

growth not hormone

finds documents containing 'growth' but not 'hormone'

(growth not hormone) and stature

finds documents containing 'stature', plus 'information' but not 'retrieval'

web*

finds documents containing words starting with 'web'

"growth hormone"

finds only the specific occurrence in documents containing the term 'growth hormone'
