Daphne's Headcovers, Leta Lindley, and Monkey Made of Sockies team up to support Prader-Willi Charity
Phoenix, Arizona - Daphne's Headcovers, the original headcover company, has teamed up with LPGA touring professional Leta Lindley, and Shannon Grissom, the creator of the Monkey Made of Sockies character in support of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA). PWSA funds research, provides education, and offers help to enhance the quality of life for those affected by Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS).
Daphne’s wildly successful new headcover, Monkey Made of Sockies is the common thread that binds Daphne’s Headcovers, Lindley, Grissom and PWSA (USA) together. A portion of sales proceeds through each of the group’s websites will go to provide desperately needed funds to fight PWS.
“My mother, the namesake of our company, always said we should do good when we were doing well,” explained Jane Spicer, president of Daphne’s Headcovers. “We’re thrilled to know that sales of our headcover will not only bring delight to our users but moreover will assist in the research necessary to fight this horrible affliction in children.”
PWS is a complex birth defect typically causing low muscle tone, short stature, incomplete sexual development, and a chronic feeling of hunger. Coupled with a metabolism that utilizes drastically fewer calories than normal, this can lead to excessive eating and life-threatening obesity, among many medical and developmental issues.
Monkey Made of Sockies is a character from Grissom’s children’s book of the same name. The author and illustrator said, “It seems fitting that a portion of proceeds benefit children. My mother was a special education teacher who had a tremendous impact on her students.” Grissom inherited the original MMOS after her mother’s passing. She added, “Through our support of Prader-Willi, my mom will continue to help children in perpetuity.”
Shortly after having her second child, LPGA star Leta Lindley met Josilyn Levine, a child with PWS. She joined Josi’s family in a charity golf tournament benefitting PWS. She played in subsequent tournaments, always aware of her relationship with Josi, until agreeing this year to add her name to the Leta Lindley Prader-Willi Classic. Many of Lindley’s LPGA friends joined her at this year’s tournament.
“I had never heard of PWS but as the mother of two children, I couldn’t help but feel a connection to Josi and her cause,” Lindley revealed. “I have always wanted to use my golf talents to make a difference and I never imagined that opportunity would present itself through this adorable little girl and her family.” Lindley thanked Spicer and Daphne’s Headcovers for raising awareness and funds and exclaimed, “Together we will beat Prader-Willi and cure Josi’s hunger once and for all.”
Craig Polhemus, executive director of PWSA (USA), said “Each purchase of this adorable Monkey Made of Sockies golf club head cover will help support the vital work Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA) does for thousands affected by Prader-Willi syndrome. We are pleased to have this avenue to raise awareness about and funds for PWS and grateful to Daphne’s Headcovers for caring about our loved ones with the syndrome.”
