Dear Family and
Friends,
Well it is that time of year and I will again participate in the
4th Annual Lose-A-Thon, a Prader-Willi Syndrome (USA) initiative. I
say “again” because I have participated in the past but it appears
(and I do mean appears , my mirror tells me so) that I need to lose
some weight. You know what Margaret Thatcher says…”You may have to
fight the battle more than once to win it.” The Lose-A-Thon program
is both an inspiring and meaningful way to keep me motivated during
the challenge, so I am again asking for your help.
Here’s how the program works----each participant in the PWS
Lose-A-Thon pledges to lose a given amount of weight by May 31,
2009. May is also the PWS Awareness month so we can not only shine
the spotlight on PWS but also, a healthy life style. We send out
letters to our family, closest friends and co-workers to ask them to
help me reach a $1000.00 funding goal and/or weight goal in order to
become a member of the Shining Star group. This elite group will
have their pictures and names hanging in the hallowed halls of the
national PWSA (USA) office for all of 2009.
You can help support my efforts with a donation, returning the
enclosed donor form to me along with a check, payable to PWSA (USA)
or you can mail the check and donor form directly to PWSA (USA),
8588 Potter Park Drive Suite 500, Sarasota, FL 34238. You may choose
to donate by credit card directly to my personal Lose-A-Thon web
page at www.firstgiving.com/pwsausa. This is a secure web site and
you will be able to see how I am doing. When you reach the web site
type my name into the “Find A Friend” box and it will take you to my
personal page. Click on my name and follow the directions to make
the donation. Your entire donation is tax-deductible and you may be
able to double your gift if your company has a matching gift
program.
This challenge is very personal to me because my (child,
relative, friend’s child etc) has a daily struggle with food
control. Having PWS means dealing with weight issues and many other
health problems every single day of their lives because of a genetic
error. (There is more information on PWS enclosed, that you may
share with others in order to provide more Awareness about
Prader-Willi syndrome.) (Name of person with PWS) is an inspiration
to me and is already a Shining Star. Even if you are not able to
donate money at this time, I hope you will support me with your
encouragement and good wishes.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
(Name)
