Dear Friends and Family,
Well, now I’ve done it! I have decided to join the PWSA (USA) Lose-A-Thon
campaign. “The what?” you say. Well let me explain what I am going to do and why
I need your help.
I want to participate in the 4th Annual Prader-Willi Syndrome Lose-A-Thon to
benefit the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA) and to help me to become
more fit and healthy. Each participant in the PWS Lose-A-Thon pledges to lose a
certain number of pounds by May 31, 2009. May is PWSA (USA) Awareness Month so
we want to put the spotlight on the syndrome and on getting fit while raising
funds for PWSA (USA). People with PWS have a life-long struggle with food
control and weight. If they can make the effort, I can too. I can choose my own
weight goal, my start date and the method(s) that I think will work for me to
reach my goal. When (not if) I succeed reaching my goal and recieving donations
for $1000.00, I will be a member of the Shining Stars and my name (and picture)
will hang in the hallowed halls of the national PWSA (USA) office.
Why am I telling you this? By making this announcement public to a few
hundred of my closest friends, family, and fellow workers, I must follow through
with the plan. Most importantly, though, I am doing this to support a very good
cause, and one that is especially close to my heart. My (child, sister, brother,
grandchild, niece/nephew, etc.) has PWS, and I can’t think of a better way to
honor (him/her) than to take on this very personal challenge.
I pledge to lose (10% of my body weight or X number of pounds ) by May 31,
2009.
You can help me reach my goal and become a Shining Star by returning the
enclosed donor form with a donation in the amount you wish to give or by
indicating your pledge. Safe and secure online credit card donations may be made
on my personal Lose-A-Thon web page at
www.firstgiving.com/pwsausa, type my
name into the “Find A Friend” box and when the page comes up with my name, click
on my name. Follow the rest of the instructions. Your entire donation is
tax-deductible, and you may be able to double your gift if your company has
a
matching gift program. Even if you are not able to donate money at this time, I
hope you will support me with encouragement and good wishes. When the going gets
tough I will remind myself that (name of person with PWS) goes through this
every day regardless of how much s/he has eaten. I have enclosed some additional
information about Prader-Willi syndrome so that you can help me spread the word.
I will keep this quote by Lance Armstrong on my refrigerator…
“Pain is temporary, quitting is forever.”
Sincerely,
(name)
