Prader-Willi Syndrome Military eGroup Introduction 

Yahoo group has been formed to provide information and support to parents, extended family members, and/or caregivers of children of any age with PWS who are being raised or were raised in a military family.   Participants in this eSupport Group will share information and parenting strategies with an emphasis on issues which are unique to those who serve or have served in the active or reserve military and National Guard.   The Military Group provides the opportunity to connect people who wish to share their experience and expertise gained while raising an Exceptional Family Member (EFM) diagnosed with PWS.  Our goal is to disseminate critical information such as:  What types of therapies are covered by TRICARE and how do you get TRICARE to approve everything you want; Which are the better military hospitals versus civilian; How do you apply for an EFM waiver; and any other issues that might only apply to military members.  We also want to provide a network of other military members who can help resolve issues within the military based on own experiences. 

This Military group is not intended to be a replacement for the age specific boards currently sponsored by PWSA. We provide an additional resource for those of us who serve or have served in the military and wish to discuss the special challenges associated with PWS and the military lifestyle. This list is moderated by members who are currently active duty or reservists in the military.  We understand the unique challenges that military members face.  We sincerely hope that this group will assist military families by sharing 'lessons learned' and providing points of contact who can make your life just a little bit easier as you try to create the best environment for your child.
