The 30th Annual National PWSA (USA) Conference is fast-approaching and we have an incredible line-up of speakers and presentations this year.

The General Conference includes several sessions of interest to all attendees, as well as breakout session tracts organized into topics specifically geared toward the issues and achievements of Adults, Teenagers, School Age, and Children from age 0 – 5. The following are just a few of the breakout presentations slated for this year.

Keynote Speaker – Richard Pimentel “The Music Within”
Richard is a nationally renowned expert on Disability Management, Job Recruitment, Job Retention, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Attitude Change as well as an acknowledged authority on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). His training has not only successfully enabled managers and supervisors to participate in cost reduction initiatives and implementation of policies and procedures to reduce work site accidents and re-injuries, but has also helped employers dispel stereotypes and embrace diversity

Health Update – What Everyone Needs to Know
Medical professional panel addressing issues related to Surgery and Anesthesia, Hormone Therapy, and GI Issues (David Agarwal MD, Jennifer Miller MD, Ann Scheimann MD)

Prader-Willi Syndrome: From the Orthopaedist’s Viewpoint- Discussion on the orthopaedist’s role in children with P-WS. The discussion includes scoliosis, hip dysplasia, osteoporosis, other deformities, and developmental delays. (Harold vanBosse MD)

Parenting a Child with Challenging Behaviors (Janice Forster MD, Linda Gourash MD) Dr's Forster and Gourash will share their insights and practical suggestions as parents begin to learn positive parenting techniques in raising a child with PWS. Both physicians are national experts in PWS.

Behavior Management for the Teen and Adult with PWS (Janice Forster MD, Linda Gourash) Dr's Forster and Gourash team up to share ways to prevent and manage the behavior challenges often seen in teens and adults with PWS. Both physicians are national experts in this area.

Sensory Integration for the Person with PWS
Treating the behavioral and motor challenges of PWS through sensory integration and motor activities and give families tools that they can use now and in the future with their children or clients with PWS.

Strategies to Minimize and Treat Skin Picking
Experts will share various strategies that may be tried to decrease the challenge of skin picking behavior (Greg Cherpes MD, Gus Ludwig OTR, Denise Buenzili RN)

An Overview of Prader-Willi Syndrome - What every parent should know about the syndrome (Dr. Dan Driscoll MD, PhD)

Making a House a Home, Residential Models
Residential providers from agencies across the nation will share different models they are using in supporting the adult with PWS (Jackie Mallow, Mary K Ziccardi, Jan Bradely, Steve Drago and Jeff Covington)

We will be offering a fun, structured childcare/YIP program for children ages 0 – 5. We are limiting registration in the YIP program to 50 participants so make your reservations early and don’t be left out! Wild Willy and Silly Lilly will once again be making a special guest appearance at conference and have fun activities in store for the YIP group.
