General ConferenceThe two-day General Conference is a parent/caregiver oriented program that brings together parents, caregivers, world-renowned scientists, clinicians and professionals in the field of Prader-Willi syndrome. Through this collaborative interaction of presentations, focus groups, doctor panels, and sharing sessions, the care of persons with PWS will be advanced and their futures improved. This year’s conference is being held The Wyndham Milwaukee Airport and Convention Center. The registration fee for this program includes daily continental breakfast, snacks and lunches. You will also receive handouts and other informational resources.
Keynote: Music Within - Richard Pimentel offers a powerful presentation on how we all have the ability to make a difference by tapping into the qualities of leadership within each of us. Richard, a senior partner of Milt Wright & Associates, was instrumental in the disability movement and passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The movie "Music Within” documents Richard’s journey from youth to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Topics and speakers will cover material for persons who support people of all ages who have Prader-Willi syndrome. Parents of young and old will find topics of interest.
Family Welcome Reception Please join us Wednesday, July 2nd, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for a Milwaukee Family Welcome. There will be entertainment for the children and prize giveaways. This will be a food-free event. The event will continue from 8:00-10:00 p.m. with a social/cocktail hour.
Thursday Gala Families are also invited to join us for a Thursday evening Gala Event. The evening will start off with a soft music and a relaxing dinner. A silent auction will also take place. Following the meal, entertainment will be provided by the children’s musical group, The Figureheads. This is a popular Milwaukee musical group that has a special focus and mission of singing and playing for disabled children and groups who support them. The Figureheads is an award-winning musical act turned non-profit organization using original hip-hop music to benefit a large developmental spectrum from kids to college students, parents to professional teachers and psychologists. Their vision is for community development through music and mentorship. They equip each audience of theirs (kids, peers and professionals) with educational tools and musical resources to pursue healthy relationships and quality living, and most importantly, to find ways to connect with each other across generational, developmental and cultural lines. For more information visit: www.figureheadsinc.org Infant, Youth and Adult Care for Persons with PWS PWSA of WI, Inc has worked closely with PWSA (USA) in planning and recruiting speakers, volunteers and other services to make the 2008 conference one of the best. They will be providing care to infants and children 5 years and younger, for all who attend the conference.
In order for WI volunteers to be able to share their time and provide assistance, the WI chapter decided to offer child/adult services to persons with PWS who are 6 years old and older, who are Wisconsin residents.
