ABSTRACT

This study concerns the treatment outcomes of marked genetic obesity in SPW.

We consider mainly the outcomes regarding the loss of weight and decrease of aberrant behaviors and emotional dysregulation.

Two subjects, a 20-year old man with moderate mental retardation and a 23-year-old woman with mild mental retardation have been enrolled in the study .

The plan, arranged according to the features of each subject, included the following treatments: slimming diet, exercise, physical , psychomotor and occupational therapy, animation, educational and social support and psychological counseling.

The psychomotor and physioterapy session were videorecorded at the beginning and the end of the treatment.

Boths the Hamilton psychiatric rating scale for depression (HAM D) and a self injury survey have been  adopted.

The outcomes of this treatment plan point out, in addition to loss of weight, a best coordination of movements, an improvement of self-management, a reduction of anxiety, mood lability and self-injury.
